there's a powder blue '63 Continental convertible in the background in Christmas Vacation. We had recorded it on the DVR and we're just watching it now. Mom and Pop Griswald had good taste

No doubt another example of John Hughes casting cars - he was very skilled at that. IIRC, the other grandparents had a plain Jane K-car visible in a few shots. The Taurus being the new Family Truckster was a nice touch too.

Another skillful car casting in that classic movie - Todd and Margo's Saab 9000 - in 1989, it's exactly what a stereotypical yuppiecouple would have driven:

John Hughes was a bit of a car guy in his masterful movies.

Weird Science: Porsche 928 and Ferrari Mondial T, and Lisa's pink Cadillac Eldorado Biarritz. The K5 Blazer is just right for Chet. "Anybody with a haircut like that, you know he's an a...." yeah. /"There are motorcycles in my house, Gary!... /Wyatt, there are killer mutants in your house." / "A Missile... a MISSILE! A missile in my house, Gary! My parents are coming home, Chets coming home... they're gonna freak out!"

Sixteen Candles: Porsche 944 and Rolls Royce. "Where is my automobile? VROOOOM, VROOOOM, CRASH, SPLASH.... Lake. Big Lake. HAHAHAHAHA.... /Why you little scuzbag!" The half-cut oldsmobile in the autoshop as lounge furniture is a nice touch, too.

The woody Chrysler K-car in Planes, Trains, and Automobiles is a perfect choice.... and gets destroyed in an EPIC way. 'Do you feel this vehicle is safe for highway travel?'

Ferris Bueller's Day off... "The Ferrari 250 GT California Spyder... he doesn't drive it... he wipes it with a diaper. /It is so choice, if you have the means, I highly recommend picking one up..." Cameron drives an older "pos" BMW, Jeannie drives a Fiero, Ferris' dad drives an Audi sedan... but Ferris could be the walrus, but he'd still be bumming rides off of people. Of course Ed Rooney drives a powder-blue K-car...

Breakfast Club wasn't much to do with cars... but the cars that the parents drive are character-specific... the rich girl's dad drives a 6-series BMW coupe, the geek's over-pressuring mom drives a K-car wagon, and the sport-o's jock dad drives a Bronco II.

Pretty In Pink... the rich kid of course drives a 3-series BMW.

Uncle Buck's Ford LTD coupe is a character in the story unto itself.... [3... 2... 1... ] BANG! [delayed backfire like a shotgun]

Christmas Vacation itself... the [aftermarket] woody-graphic Taurus wagon that Clark drives is obviously a reference to the Family Truckster from the first Vacation movie... and they jump it the same way, too.

Clark's in-laws drive the Lincoln Continental convertible. The crusty RV screams "Cousin Eddie", the rusty Dodge truck in the first scene is well chosen, too. The Saab sedan is perfect for the elitist yuppie neighbors in chrome mylar tracksuits, too.

The other Vacation movies have their cars, too... The crazy modified Citroen was hilarious in European Vacation, also, and Vegas Vacation ended with a quartet of cars won at the casinos.

Then there is Christie Brinkley in a Ferrari 308 QV in the original Vacation... iconic.
